Top STYLING Trends for Fall 2012

GRAPHIC EDGE:  Streamlined takes a bold turn for Fall.  Shapes are sculpted, spare, and precise. Look for color blocks of black, white and cobalt blue on these mod-inspired pieces.

ENGLISH ECCENTRIC:  The buttoned up conservative with a quirky twist! Think sexy librarian or seductive school marm.  Wear tweeds, lace, or high-necked blouse with a twist of animal print, leather or sparkle.

MODERN MIX-UP:  Say Hello to a new breed of classics - recut  - recolored – and intensified with touch me textures and hits of glitz.  But what’s really new is how you wear them: plaid on plaid, florals on houndstooth, checks on prints.  Push it even further with a leapord print or color block suede pump.  Off-beat is ON-TREND.

Oxblood Red is the Breakout Color of the Season

Time to move on from Fifty Shades of Grey ladies… because fashion designers couldn't get enough of the 50 shades of red this fall!

Burgundies simply reigned supreme on the Fall 2012 runways. Like your favorite vintner's selection, the wine colors ranged from red tinged with brown, called oxblood, to red tinged with purple or blue, like a good Bordeaux. These lush colors showed up on dresses, fur coats, leather skinny pants, suits, jeans, bags and shoes.

Other ways to wear oxblood? With rich fall colors like burnt orange and cobalt blue or more subdued with olive green and camel. It looks great on most complexions and blends seamlessly into any wardrobe.

Spring/Summer 2012 Style Trends

  • COLOR OF THE SEASON - Just before New York Fashion Week kicked off, the Pantone Institute shared its prediction for the most popular color for the season, and it was spot-on: The pick for Spring’s numero uno shade, Tangerine Tango, was all over the runways. And if tangerine isn’t your citrus of choice, there are plenty more orange hues to choose from.
  • COLOR ME BRIGHT - Bold, bright, happy colors made a strong statement on the Spring runways and are now in retailers everywhere!  Look for tangerines, kelly greens, and cobalt blue, to name a few. Fave way to wear this trend?  Brightly colored jeans are a must-have for this season and all summer.
  • SUPER BOLD PRINTS - There are prints, and then there are PRINTS. All caps are necessary to describe the vibrant, swirling, styled-head-to-toe patterns that sashayed down the spring 2012 runways.
  • PASTEL SHADES - If bright, look-at-me hues aren’t your thing, worry not: New York Fashion Week’s most esteemed designers have got your back. Spring’s sweet sorbet shades and pastel hues give off a low-key, ladylike vibe.
  • FUTURISTIC PRINTS - With so many pixilated prints and swirling graphics, it’s clear someone’s been having fun with Photoshop! If you’re feeling tired of classic patterns like plaids, stripes and polka dots, then spring 2012’s futuristic-print trend is for you.
  • COLOR BLOCKING - Spring runways were more colorful than the crowd at a Lady Gaga concert. Bold, solid-color pieces—like a cardi and skirt, wrap dress or demure one-piece suit—make simple dressing look glam. Style tip: Stick to three colors max to avoid the girly, Rainbow Brite look.
  • PEPLUM SKIRTS, SHIRTS, & DRESSES - Flirt without saying a word in this season’s peplum skirts, dresses and tops, defined by a short flared ruffle that sits at the natural waist. High heels and your steadiest eyeliner flick will seal the deal on your spring glam plan.
